Perils
of the Mission Field I want
to thank each of you for your powerful and sincere praying
that
has caused us to be able to return home once
again from the mission field safe and alive. Throughout the
New Testament, those who carried the Gospel were often in
great danger and serious peril and it is recorded that the
other believers were together praying for their safety and
deliverance.
This
particular trip was filled with many uncertainties and
quite honestly, great and
fearful dangers were all around. Deep inside the stronghold
of Islam, we found ourselves surrounded by true haters
of the Cross. While I was speaking about the love of Christ
and the miracles we have seen Him do, hundreds of Muslim
men and women began screaming out against us. As they pressed
in toward us, fists clinched and waving in the air, our
hired
driver called for peace and calm. Suddenly, a man struck
him across the face for trying to help us! Our driver instructed
us to run to the car and get inside. Within minutes, the
car was surrounded by a huge angry mob that begin rocking
the car back and forth.
I thought they were going to flip it over! Many of them
jumped up and down on the hood and roof, which was beginning
to
bend in from the weight of them all.
We were finally able to drive away and get back to the little hotel we were
staying in.
The next
morning, village leaders with two policemen came to the
hotel and
began to question me about what I was doing in their country. They constantly
screamed and threatened me with jail. They confiscated my passport and told
me I was in serious trouble with their government under
Islamic law. This went on
for more than two hours that morning. They left and then returned late that
evening with some other officials for another hour or
so of the same kind of questions
and threats. While I was in the lobby with them, someone went into my room
and searched for whatever they could find to use against
me.
The next
day we found out that all of our e-mails and phone calls
were being monitored. There were
always two or three men following me from a distance everywhere I went.
Through it all, and in spite of it all, the Gospel net
was cast over their entire
village and there is nothing the devil can do to ever
change that! We were able to
leave the country and return home all because of the
Grace of God and His people praying
for us so often.
We will
continue to penetrate the areas of the world that have
the least amount of Gospel! Yes, it can get dangerous
at times but, did not our
Lord pay a much higher price so...."the world through Him might be saved!" Thank you again for your wonderful concern and burden for
missions! Every dollar spent and every danger-filled minute
is worth it all! Jesus is quickly gathering
His great harvest and you are a vital part of it all!
